This is an interesting way to present the player with nostalgia by playing through iconic levels such as Green Hill Zone. The graphically enhanced versions of past levels look gorgeous. Couple this with the immediately recognizable Sonic music and the bone chilling nostalgia is palpable.
Although Sonic remains the one playable character it is nice to see old friends reunite. This game ultimately acts as a tribute to the Sonic franchise. The speedy gameplay that once innovated the gaming industry is back in full force. Taking control of Sonic and speeding through levels is a ton of fun.
Unfortunately, the modern levels incorporated do not do much to innovate the gameplay. Skate ditched many of the arcade elements found in its competitors, instead focusing on a realistic and relentlessly challenging version of the sport, complete with great skating personalities like Rob Dyrdek. As with any skateboarding game worth its salt, Skate included a killer soundtrack of hardcore punk and hip-hop tracks, with artists like Bad Brains, Agent Orange, Black Flag, Dead Prez, and Rick Ross blaring in your ears as you attempted a sick kickflip that ultimately ended in a faceplant on the pavement.
